Arcade Game Remakes

Remaking old classics

Engine: Windows MakeCode

As one of my first contract jobs in the gaming industry, I was tasked to attempt to remake old arcade classics in order to teach students on how to navigate through the MakeCode engine and making it fun. While I had used a very similar engine in the past (Scratch), I had to learn my ways around this new one for the job. I am definitely not new to the visual scripting mode of coding as that is my preferred way of coding in Unreal (Blueprints). The two classics that I chose for this job was Pac-Man and Contra (1987). The reason for this was because I wanted to use two different games with different difficulties to make. Pac-Man was simple (apart from figuring out the AI behavior) and was done in a way that was fairly easy to understand. Contra was more detailed and larger, took three times the time to arrange. Overall I was pretty happy with the products, the project client especially liked Pac-Man as a teaching tool to get kids coding from an early age.
